Paynesville, Liberia – The Liberia Football Association (LFA) has officially graduated 15 coaches—11 Liberians and four others from Gambia and Zambia—from the CAF A License Diploma program. The ceremony also marked a groundbreaking moment as the LFA signed a partnership agreement with William V.S. Tubman University to establish Liberia’s first-ever university-certified coaching program.
LFA President Mustapha Raji described the event as a double milestone, celebrating the successful completion of the highest-level coaching certification while launching a new academic path for future coaches. He noted that this move will provide more accessible and formal coaching education, reducing barriers for talented individuals across the country.
The initiative, which combines football training with academic coursework, is designed to improve coaching standards and help Liberia compete at higher levels regionally and internationally. Raji emphasized that Liberian and international participants were all vital to the training’s success, and that the presence of foreign coaches enhances the learning environment without displacing local talent.
Dr. Olu Q. Menjay, President of Tubman University, encouraged the new graduates to lead with humility, courage, and purpose. He urged them to be positive role models for their communities and use their training to uplift Liberian football.
Deputy Sports Minister Andy Quamie shared a compelling story about a Zambian participant who, despite being pregnant, traveled to Liberia to complete the course—a testament to the value placed on this training. He challenged the Liberian coaches to take full advantage of the local opportunity and put their new skills into action.
Until now, Liberia had very few CAF A‑licensed coaches. With the graduation of this new batch, the number has significantly increased, representing a promising future for football development in the country.
