Monrovia, Liberia – Liberia has officially launched its first-ever monkeypox vaccination campaign, aiming to protect citizens and reduce the spread of the disease. This important public health effort is being supported by the World Health Organization (WHO) and other partners to ensure effective vaccine delivery across the country.
The vaccination rollout focuses on high-risk groups and vulnerable communities, with health authorities prioritizing swift response to recent monkeypox cases. The Ministry of Health is leading the campaign alongside WHO experts, combining vaccination efforts with public awareness and education to combat misinformation.
Dr. Olushayo Olu, acting WHO Country Representative, emphasized the urgency of the initiative, highlighting the need to safeguard public health and prevent further outbreaks. He praised Liberia’s proactive approach in working closely with international partners.
The Ministry of Health is also coordinating with community leaders and healthcare workers to increase vaccine acceptance and ensure outreach to remote and underserved areas.
This vaccination campaign is part of Liberia’s broader strategy to strengthen its disease surveillance and response systems, while aligning with global health security goals.
