Monrovia, Liberia – August 3, 2025 — Hard Fact News has issued a formal clarification concerning recent allegations made against Hamak Gold Ltd. and its successor, 79 Resources Inc., addressing claims of license fraud and unpaid government fees in Liberia’s mining sector.
The clarification, published on Hard Fact’s website, states that 79 Resources Inc. remains in good standing with the Government of Liberia, countering earlier reports that accused both companies of bypassing regulatory protocols, evading fees, and attempting to re-enter the Liberian mining market through questionable practices.
Earlier this year, a wave of investigative reporting alleged that Hamak Gold’s Nimba license expired in 2017, and the company failed to pay over USD 400,000 in licensing fees. According to the initial reports, rather than clear its obligations, Hamak Gold allegedly dissolved and rebranded as 79 Resources Inc. in an effort to obtain new licenses under a different name while retaining the same ownership structure.
Further accusations involved documentation discrepancies, conflicting tax identification numbers, and a payment overlap with another company, Northwestern Mining. A Special Investigation Committee (SIC) reportedly unearthed irregularities in banking records, leading to suspicions of collusion between the companies and certain officials within Liberia’s Ministry of Mines and Energy.
However, the recent clarification by Hard Fact News seeks to distance 79 Resources from these claims, stating there is no active violation involving the company at this time. The report did not provide specifics on which allegations were inaccurate or whether the findings from the Special Investigation Committee had been refuted.
The situation has sparked broader concern about Liberia’s mining governance and the credibility of media reporting on sensitive corporate matters. With significant public and private interests at stake in the extractive sector, questions remain around due process, transparency, and the accuracy of information being disseminated to the public.
While the clarification attempts to restore the image of 79 Resources, it also calls into question the due diligence practices of both journalists and government watchdogs involved in the earlier investigations.
